SCRC recently conducted a comprehensive two-day Child Protection and Child Rights training in Mogadishu. The training specifically targeted the Community-Based Child Welfare Committees (CBCWC) in the Banadir region, focusing on the Kaxda, Garasbaley, and Daynile IDP Camps.
The primary objective of this training was to empower community members with essential skills and knowledge related to child rights and child protection. By equipping them with these tools, we aimed to enhance their capacity for community mobilization in IDP areas. The training sought to enable participants to actively advocate for and voice their support for key child protection measures, as well as contribute to improving child rights within their local communities.
During the two-day training, participants engaged in interactive sessions that covered a wide range of topics. These included an overview of child rights and the legal frameworks in place to protect them, understanding the various forms of child abuse and exploitation, identifying signs of child vulnerability, and learning effective strategies for preventing and responding to child protection issues. The training also emphasized the importance of community involvement and collaboration to ensure the well-being and safety of children.
Through group discussions, case studies, and practical exercises, participants gained practical skills and tools to effectively engage with child protection and child rights issues. The training fostered a collaborative learning environment, enabling participants to share their experiences, challenges, and best practices.
By the end of the training, the CBCWC members in the Banadir region were well-equipped to fulfil their roles as advocates for child protection and promoters of child rights within their communities. They acquired the necessary knowledge and skills to identify and address child protection concerns, provide support to vulnerable children, and actively contribute to creating a safer and more nurturing environment for children in the IDP camps.
SCRC remains committed to supporting the efforts of community-based organizations and individuals in promoting child rights and protecting children from harm. The Child Protection and Child Rights training is just one of the many initiatives undertaken by SCRC to strengthen community mobilization and create a meaningful impact on the lives of children in Somalia.
